CASTING CALL - BEDTIME STORIES (as told by Dad)

What do the stories of The Princess and the Pea, The Boy Who Cried Wolf and Rumpelstiltskin have in common? They're all told by Dad to his three children as he tries to get them to bed. Problem is, Dad can't quite remember exactly how they went (it was a long time ago that he heard them). Dad's spin on these old tales comes to life on the stage, creating a hilarious re-telling of the stories with some interesting twists! (how about dancing sheep?) Seeking 20 children, teens adults. Auditions Fri. June 9th or Mon. June 11th, all at 6:30 p.m. Hanover Civic Theatre. Those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Durham Herb Fair 2018

The Durham & District Horticultural Society is proud to host the 2018 Durham Herb Fair on June 9th at the Durham Town Hall & Park from 9 AM to 3 PM. This year promises to be the biggest Durham Herb Fair on record with 50 vendors and community groups joining us. Our vendors will be offering all natural, homegrown and handmade products. Everything from herbs, perennials, annuals and vegetable plants as well as trees and shrubs to garden art and decor. Handmade soaps and body products, pottery, sewing, candles, essential oils and wood crafts. Lavender, honey, bee, maple, garlic, trout, hemp, alpaca, metal products and the list goes on! Visit the bunnies and alpaca with the kids and have them draw a picture of them or plant up some seeds. The Grey County Master Gardeners will be on hand to give free gardening advice. Stop by the West Grey Library table and pick up your summer reading at their used book sale, get the latest fundraising tickets from the Durham Lions Club & Durham Agricultural Society. Take out a membership with the Durham & District Horticultural Society or purchase tickets for our July Garden Tour. Food is available all day in the Town Hall and free popcorn will be available for the wee ones! If you're looking for that very special plant or art piece to add to your garden, something for your home, kitchen pantry or yourself this is the place to visit. No admission fee, free parking and loads of fun for the entire family. When you're done at the Fair, visit the stores in Downtown Durham. Art supplies, gifts, sporting goods, antiques, books, natural foods and more. Spend a wonderful day in a wonderful community!!!!!!!

Durham & District Horticultural Society Flower & Photography Show

The Durham & District Horticultural Society is proud to host its 2018 Flower & Photography Show on June 21st at the Durham Town Hall. This year the number of categories will be reduced and we hope to offer simpler design categories to encourage those with little or no experience to enter. It's all for learning and fun, so why not give it a try! We know many of you have absolutely beautiful photos to share, so please enter them into the Photography section. The talent in our community is truly amazing and this is a perfect setting for everyone to showcase it! Entries may be dropped off at the Town Hall on Wednesday, May 20th from 7 PM to 9 PM and on Thursday, May 21st from 9 AM to 1 PM. The doors will close at 1 PM for judging and reopen at 6 PM for viewing. Winners will be announced at 7 PM followed by our General Meeting with Guest Speaker Brian Robin of Grange Hollow Nursery who will help us celebrate our 2018 "Year of the Pollinator." Brian will talk about the best perennials to plant to attract pollinating insects, how and where to grow them and how to care for our Bees & Butterflies. No entry fee for the exhibits. The Durham & District Horticultural Society's July General Meeting will be held at the Durham Co-Op, 377 Garafraxa Street South, Durham. We're having a WORKSHOP! Succulents are very popular garden or container plants and we will welcome Grey County Master Gardener Margot Byers to help us learn the best planting, growing and caring for practices to keep these easy to care for plants looking their very best. Succulents of all kinds will be available for purchase so bring along your container of choice. They grow with very little soil and a glass bowl, piece of driftwood, barn board or a rock with indentations make excellent succulent vessels. Or, just come and learn about these plants for your gardens at home and plan out a succulent garden of your own. Our workshops are always fun evenings and a great way to learn something new. Refreshments will be served and Everyone is Welcome. Bring your friends!

The Durham & District Horticultural Society welcomes Grey County Master Gardeners Rebecca Baker and Pat Wyszynski. They join us for our August 16 General Meeting to give a presentation on "A Shrub for All Seasons." Shape! Size! Colour! Shrubs provide all of this and more! Learn their best planting and care practices. Something that can be a challenge to any gardener is the proper pruning techniques for your shrubs. Rebecca and Pat will give a wonderful demonstration on the best pruning methods. There are many new shrub varieties available and they would make excellent additions to your gardens to add something special all year long. A perfect midsummer presentation. Our members who attended the meeting that evening had a unanimous request that we invite James back as a speaker in 2018. So we did! James Graham will be our October 18th Guest Speaker giving a presentation on everything growing. The whats, wheres, hows and whys to make your garden as special as it can be.
