WEST GREY, ON—West Grey Mayor Christine Robinson will lead a team of councillors and staff to Ottawa next week to participate in the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference in Ottawa.
The conference is a critical opportunity to let the provincial government know local concerns and advocate for the needs of our residents.
“West Grey has such an exciting story to tell—it is our pleasure to share and connect with our provincial and municipal partners in order to build vital pathways and relationships for the betterment of our community,” Mayor Christine Robinson said. “It is important to remember, we are also there to listen; there is so much to learn from other municipalities right across the province.”
The AMO conference runs from August 18 to 21 in Ottawa and brings together municipalities from right across Ontario alongside provincial partners.
West Grey has four delegations scheduled. These are important one-on-one meetings with provincial ministers and staff to bring concerns and opportunities forward on behalf of the municipality.
West Grey delegations include: a call for strengthened communication; fair funding formulas for infrastructure; exploring blue box recycling and organics in a rural environment; and a proposal that recognizes bridges as an important tourism opportunity.
“We are looking forward to speaking directly with the province about the challenges municipalities face and the opportunities to build West Grey,” Mayor Robinson said. “We welcome the opportunity to work with our provincial partners during this exciting time for our community.”
