Bridge N-056 Reopens in Normanby

Bridge N-056 Reopens in Normanby

The Municipality of West Grey is pleased to announce that Bridge N-056 on Concession 16, east of Sideroad 25 in Normanby, is now open to traffic. The rehabilitated structure has a 10-tonne weight limit and restores a vital transportation link for residents, emergency services, and local traffic.

The bridge was closed in September 2024 due to a deteriorated deck. While the existing steel substructure remained structurally sound, the deck required full replacement. Through a design-build process, West Grey worked with McLean Taylor Contracting to deliver a cost-effective solution that preserved the steel structure, replaced the deck, and ensured compliance with Ministry of Transportation bridge standards, including axle load requirements.

Construction began in summer 2025 and was completed in time for the 2025-2026 winter season, minimizing disruption to residents and ensuring the bridge could be used for winter maintenance operations.

This project is part of West Grey’s Bridge Prioritization Plan, which identifies and addresses aging infrastructure to maintain safe, reliable crossings throughout the municipality.

Mayor Kevin Eccles said, “Reopening N-056 safely and efficiently demonstrates our commitment to maintaining vital infrastructure while keeping public safety top of mind.”

West Grey extends sincere thanks to McLean Taylor, municipal staff, and the public for their patience during the rehabilitation. For more information on this project, please visit westgrey.com/currentprojects
