Council Meeting Highlights - January 13, 2026

Council instructed staff to issue letters of support as follows:

• To Grey County, endorsing automated speed enforcement, with copies of the resolution sent to the Premier of Ontario, the Minister of Transportation, and the MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.
• To the Town of Smith Falls, supporting the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund, forwarding the resolution to the Premier of Ontario, the Minister of Infrastructure, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the federal Minister of Finance, the Associations of Municipalities of Ontario, Ontario Small Urban Municipalities, and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
• To the Town of Smiths Falls, advocating for the reinstatement of eligibility for curbside blue box collection, transmitting the resolution to the Premier of Ontario; the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks; the Association of Municipalities of Ontario; and the MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.

Council received a staff report regarding Circular Materials Ontario Accepted Items Update. As of January 1, 2026, Circular Materials Ontario (CMO) assumed full responsibility of the Blue Box recycling program across the province. CMO has expanded the list of materials included for recycling in the Blue Box. For the full list of materials, please visit our Blue Box Recycling page.

Council authorized staff to formalize an agreement with Circular Materials Ontario for the provision of blue box materials collection services at two Waste and Diversion Sites in West Grey. Further, staff were instructed to take all necessary steps to ensure the separation of eligible and non-eligible source materials.

Council shared information about upcoming community events, including:

• Ayton Lion’s Steak Dinner on January 31, 2026
• Frazzlefest events taking place throughout West Grey on Family Day Weekend February 13 – 16, 2026
