Council Meeting Highlights - June 17, 2025

Mayor Eccles presented the 2025 Senior of the Year Award to Theresa McLaughlin in recognition of her outstanding volunteerism, leadership, and long-standing commitment to the West Grey community. Council expressed gratitude for her many contributions, which have made a meaningful impact on the lives of residents.

Council has directed staff to end formal discussions regarding a potential joint police service between West Grey Police Service and Owen Sound Police Service. Council supported ongoing dialogue between the Police Chiefs of both Services to explore opportunities for cost savings and potential integration of policing functions, with a focus on enhancing the cost-effectiveness and adequacy of police services in both communities.

Council received a staff report regarding ‘IPW 2025-13 Blue Box Transition and Waste Collection update’. Circular Materials Ontario (CMO) is responsible for administering the blue box program in Ontario, and Waste Management Canada has been awarded the contract for blue box collection by CMO effective 2025.

2026 pre-budget approval has been given for the replacement of the bridge deck on Structure N-055 at the tendered amount of $265,000 plus HST. Council authorized the Mayor and Clerk to execute all necessary documents to enter into an agreement with McLean Taylor for the project.

Council directed staff to issue a Request for Proposals for options for managing household solid waste. The Municipality of West Grey currently provides bi-weekly curbside collection for household solid waste through a third-party service provider, whose contract expires on June 30, 2026.

Council shared information about upcoming community events, including:

• Neustadt Markt being held on June 21, 2025, at the Neustadt Lions Park from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
• Durham Firefighters Breakfast being held on June 22, 2025, at the Durham Lions Heritage Park from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.
• A Saugeen Summer Night being held on June 21, 2025, at the Lions Heritage Bridge from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m.
