Council Meeting Highlights - May 6, 2025
Council received three delegations regarding Sunday Gun Hunting Across Ontario and in West Grey.
Council directed staff to send a letter of support for resolutions passed by other municipalities respecting opposition to Strong Mayor Powers to the Ontario Premier, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.
Council directed staff to bring forward bylaws to authorize long-term borrowing for such capital work through the issuance of a bank loan. As part of the 2024 Budget, Council authorized rehabilitation of the Neustadt Water Tower in the amount of $1,600,000, and construction of a new Durham Water Well and Rockwood Water/Sewer Services in the amount of $1,310,000.
Council received a report on Updates to the Municipal Act, 2001, and Amendments to O. Reg. 530/22 – Strong Mayor Powers. Strong Mayor Powers came into effect for West Grey on May 1, 2025.
Council received a report regarding Grey County Hybrid Planning Services Model Proposal. Council provided support in-principle for West Grey’s participation in Grey County hybrid planning service delivery model.
Council shared information about upcoming community events, including:
- Durham Business Improvement Area is having its Annual General Meeting on May 28, 2025, at the Foundry at 7 p.m.
- Normanby Homecoming Spring Craft Show on June 1, 2025, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
- Neustadt Lions 49th Annual Crab, Steak or Lobsterfest on May 24, 2025, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
