Council meeting highlights - November 21, 2023

Council received a delegation from Francesca Dobbyn, United Way of Bruce Grey respecting a 2023 living wage study.

Council received correspondence from the Municipality of Wawa respecting tax credits for volunteer firefighters. Council directed staff to send a letter of support to the Federal Minister of Finance respecting enacting amendments to Bill C-310 in order to increase the amount of tax credits for volunteer firefighting.

Council directed staff to bring forward a bylaw to appoint Principles Integrity as West Grey’s Integrity Commissioner for a five-year term effective January 1, 2024.

Council directed staff to bring forward a bylaw to adopt the Municipally Significant Event policy and amend the fees and charges bylaw to add a $100 application fee for requests for events to be designated as municipally significant.   

Council directed staff to transfer the current 2023 unspent trails budget to reserve for future trails development.

Council members announced upcoming community events including the Ayton tree lighting and the Elmwood tree lighting on November 26, 2023; the Durham Santa Claus Parade on December 2, 2023; the Neustadt Santa Claus Parade on December 3, 2023; the Volunteer and Sports Recognition Awards on December 6, 2023; and the Durham Tree Lighting on December 7, 2023.
