Council Meeting Highlights - September 2, 2025

Council received a delegation from the Saugeen Hospice Inc. Build Campaign regarding the Saugeen Hospice being built in Bruce County. Saugeen Hospice is anticipating welcoming their first resident in the winter of 2028.

Council received correspondence from the Royal Canadian Legion requesting to fly the Legion flag at the West Grey Municipal office during Legion Week. Council directed staff to raise the Legion flag at the Municipal office from September 22 to 23, 2025.

Council declared October 19–25, 2025, as Public Library Week in the Municipality of West Grey.

Council received correspondence from Compass Greenfield Development Inc. requesting a municipal support resolution for the Cedar Agrivoltaics project. Council directed the Mayor to sign the IESO municipal support resolution on behalf of West Grey.

Council received correspondence regarding the Elect Respect Pledge and directed staff to send a letter of support for the resolution.

Council received a staff report providing an update on the West Grey Official Plan for the settlement areas of Durham and Neustadt. Since January 2024, staff have modified draft policies and schedules. Due to the number of changes, two public open houses will be held, and a public meeting is tentatively scheduled for October 21, 2025.

Council received a staff report on the transition to automated cart collection for recycling by Circular Materials Ontario. Starting October 6, 2025, Waste Management will introduce automated carts for curbside blue box recycling. As part of this change, waste and recycling pickup days have been updated. Recycling carts will be delivered between September 22 and October 3. Check the recycling calendar to confirm your new collection date: circularmaterials.ca/westgrey.

Council reviewed a staff report regarding Traffic Calming and requested that the Mayor consider the following pilot initiatives for the 2026 budget: implementation of seasonal in-line flexible signs on Durham Road East in Durham, installation of seasonal speed bumps on Louisa Street in Ayton, and replacement of existing speed display boards. Additionally, Council instructed staff to report back with the findings of the pedestrian crossover study and to prepare a report on Community Safety Zones upon completion of the study. 

Council received a staff report on ‘Options for RFP to Create Aggregate Policies in West Grey’ and deferred a decision until November 4, 2025. Council directed staff to meet with Grey County, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Ministry of Natural Resources, and other relevant ministries to further explore options for aggregate policies and to report back on the outcomes of those discussions. 

Council received a staff report on the Water and Sewer Rates Update, which includes updates to fees for the Durham and Neustadt systems. These changes ensure that the water and sewer systems remain self-funded and financially sustainable, without relying on property taxes.

  • Normanby Plowmen’s Association on Saturday, September 6, 2025
  • Neustadt Fall Fair on Saturday, September 20, 2025
