Significant Weather Event Declared – Municipality of West Grey

The Municipality of West Grey has declared a Significant Weather Event (SWE) at 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2025, in accordance with Section 16.9 of Ontario Regulation 239/02.

The Significant Weather Event has been declared due to forecasted and/or observed weather conditions. This declaration is intended to notify the public that extra caution should be exercised when travelling on roads and sidewalks maintained by the Municipality of West Grey. Due to freezing rain and icy conditions, it may take longer than usual to restore roadways and sidewalks to a state of repair.

This Significant Weather Event will remain in effect until further notice.

West Grey Holiday Office Closure

The Municipality of West Grey office will be closed for the holidays beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026.

Please note that the Durham and Bentinck Waste and Diversion Site will be closed on December 25 and 26, 2025, and January 1, 2026.

The Waste and Diversion Sites will operate as usual on all other days. Waste and Recycling collection schedules will not be affected by these closures.

Municipal Facility Closure – Monday, December 29, 2025

Due to inclement weather and the declared Significant Weather Event, the Municipality of West Grey will be closing the following municipal facilities as of 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025:

  • Ayton Community Centre

  • Neustadt Community Centre

As a result of this closure, free roller skating originally scheduled for Monday, December 29, 2025 has been rescheduled to Wednesday, December 31, 2025 afternoon.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed of current road conditions by visiting roads.grey.ca and to exercise caution if travel is necessary. Where possible, members of the public are advised to remain off the roads during this Significant Weather Event.
