Municipality of West Grey Announces Reopening of Bridge 44 on Northline Road Following Replacement Project

WEST GREY, ON – December 1, 2025 – The Municipality of West Grey is pleased to announce that Bridge 44 on Northline Road, located east of Glenelg Road 23, has officially reopened to all traffic following the successful replacement of the old structure

Bridge 44, also known as the Scotchtown bridge, was closed on June 23, 2025, to allow for the removal of the original structure and the construction of a new precast rigid-frame concrete bridge. The project included helical pile installation, waterproofing, reinforced concrete work, and newly paved road approaches. With construction now complete, Northline Road between Glenelg Road 23 and the Artemesia/Glenelg Townline is once again open for through traffic.

The previous bridge, built in 1920, had reached the end of its service life and was identified as a priority for replacement to ensure the continued safety and reliability of the roadway network. The new structure will provide long-term durability and improved transportation access for residents, local farmers, and all road users. Its completion supports the Municipality’s broader commitment to improving infrastructure through its long-term bridge prioritization program.

Mayor Kevin Eccles expressed his appreciation for the project’s completion:
“Investing in safe and reliable infrastructure is essential for our community. The replacement of Bridge 44 ensures that residents, businesses, and emergency services have dependable access for years to come. We thank everyone for their patience during construction and look forward to continued progress on our infrastructure priorities.”

The Scotchtown bridge was replaced with the support of the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund, and with the support of project partners Triton Engineering and W.G. Kelly Contracting.
