The Municipality of West Grey is committed to economic development initiatives that will attract new businesses to the area and aid in growing the community. We have partnered with neighbouring municipalities and Grey County to take a regional approach to promoting growth in resident, commercial and service sectors.
West Grey continues to focus on business retention, succession and attraction while leveraging regional resources and grants.
In-house building, planning and development departments allow West Grey to communicate directly with its developers in order to get projects off the ground in a safe and timely manner and in a way fashioned to fit the needs of the community.
West Grey works closely with the Durham BIA and the South Grey Chamber of Commerce to promote and engage our business community. As well, West Grey is a partner with Saugeen Connects a group of neighbouring municipalities who have come together with the common goal of bolstering regional economic development.
Hawks' Nest program |
Saugeen Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and Bruce Community Futures Development Corporation (BCFDC) are not-for-profit organizations that have partnered to bring Hawks' Nest for 2023. This event is a Dragons Den inspired competition where entrepreneurs from various sectors will pitch their business ideas attempting to secure financial support from local "hawk" investors. Open to all applicants within the Grey, Bruce, Owen Sound, Minto and North Wellington area. The Hawks' Nest is an opportunity to garner cash investments and to promote your business throughout the region. As an entrepreneur, you will have the opportunity to pitch your business ideas in an attempt to secure financial support from local investors (the Hawks). Six regional entrepreneurs and one youth from our local coverage area will be chosen as finalists. Each will have the opportunity to gain investment from the Hawks, with each investor committing to a minimum $5,000 value investment in one or more competitors they see as a good fit for them. The investment is at the discretion of each Hawk. This event continues to support local economic growth and provide a development opportunity for new businesses and local business expansions. It is a great way to reach out to entrepreneurs, so they bring their enthusiasm to the Hawks for consideration of their new or expanding business. We will have Free Business Plan Training Virtual workshops leading up to the event. Each entrepreneur with a new business is required to take the business plan training.
