Bridge N-056 Rehabilitation Project

Project Overview

The Bridge N-056 Rehabilitation Project has officially been initiated to restore safe and reliable access on Concession 16 in Normanby, between Sideroad 25 and Baseline, where the bridge crosses the Beatty Saugeen River. The bridge was closed in September 2024 due to a deteriorated deck. While the surface deck requires full replacement, the underlying steel structure is in good condition and will be retained.

Scope of Work

  • Removal and replacement of the deteriorated bridge deck
  • Preservation and continued use of the existing steel substructure
  • Design and construction in accordance with Ministry of Transportation bridge design standards, including minimum axle load requirements

The project is being delivered through a Design/Build tender process authorized by Council.

  • Design/Build Tender Release: Authorized by Council
  • Construction Start: Late spring/summer 2025
  • Anticipated Completion: Before the 2025/2026 winter control season

  • Bridge N-056 remains closed due to safety concerns
  • During construction, access will continue to be restricted
  • Alternative routes should be used; detour signage will be posted as needed
  • Updates will be provided to keep residents informed of reopening timelines

  • Tender documents will be released and evaluated
  • A contractor will be selected to complete the design and reconstruction
  • Once awarded, construction planning and scheduling will begin for a late spring/summer 2025 start

Benefits of this Project

The project restores a key transportation link for residents, emergency services, and winter maintenance operations, improves safety by replacing a deteriorated bridge deck, provides a cost-effective use of the existing steel structure, ensures compliance with provincial bridge standards, and supports long-term infrastructure reliability in Normanby Township.
