Council Meeting Highlights - April 21, 2026
Council received a presentation from Kevin Tremble of MNP LLP regarding the 2024 Municipality of West Grey Draft Audited Financial Statements, West Grey Trust Funds, and the West Grey Public Library Board. Council approved the 2024 draft audited financial statements, trust funds, and Public Library Board audit as presented.
Council received correspondence from the Municipal Engineers Association respecting the Harmonization of Municipal Road Construction Standards and Associated Governance Model. Council directed staff to send a letter of support for the correspondence to the Ministry of Transportation.
Council authorized staff to enter into an agreement with Aleksandra Macura for the use of the Durham Town Hall during July and August 2026 for the purposes of operating a children’s day camp program.
Council received a staff report on the 2025 annual/summary reports for drinking water systems. West Grey operates drinking water systems in the Town of Durham and the Village of Neustadt. In 2025 there were no issues of non-compliance. All microbiological and physical/chemical sampling occurred as per O. Reg. 170/03 and were found to be within compliance.
Council received the 2026 Grants to Organizations staff report and approved funding allocations totaling $19,850 for healthcare initiatives and $10,000 for community grants. Of the healthcare funding, $13,850 was allocated to Centre Grey Health Services as part of the Municipality’s existing funding pledge, and the remaining $6,000 was awarded to the Durham Hospital Foundation. Council also distributed $8,050 of the $10,000 community grants budget among local organizations, including support for agricultural societies, service clubs, community associations, and cultural groups. In total, funding requests exceeded the available community grants budget by $43,678.35.
Council directed staff to bring forward a bylaw to authorize the Mayor and Clerk to execute a transfer payment agreement with the Ministry of the Solicitor General for the court security and prisoner transportation program. West Grey has been approved to receive funding in the amount of $9,029.00 under the Court Security and Prisoner Transportation program.
Council approved the West Grey 2025 Non-Core Asset Management Plan. O. Reg. 558/17 requires municipalities to prepare an asset management plan for all assets by July 1, 2025.
Council shared information about upcoming community events, including:
- Neustadt Craft Show on May 2, 2026, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
- Neustadt Lions Club Lobsterfest on May 23, 2026, at the Neustadt Arena from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
- Grey Bruce Labour Council will hold a National Day of Mourning ceremony on April 28, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Heritage Square in Hanover.
