Council Meeting Highlights - August 11, 2026

Council received a delegation from Khanani Developments Durham Acquisitions Inc. regarding a request for the allocation of municipal water and sanitary sewer capacity for a proposed residential draft plan of subdivision located at Khanani Development in the Municipality of West Grey.

Council received a delegation from Don Tremble regarding the proposed dressing room for the Durham Thundercats. Council directed staff to report back on options for a Thundercats dressing room at the September 2026 Council meeting.

Council supported a resolution from the Town of Caledon respecting a Motion for Provincial Support, Funding and Coordinated Plans to Combat Tick Borne Diseases.

Council received a staff report regarding the Police Station Subdivision Absolute Title and Minor Land Sale Proposal. Council declared a portion of the Police Station property surplus to the Municipality’s needs and authorized the sale of a small piece of land to an adjacent property owner. West Grey has received draft plan approval, but the subdivision plan must be registered at the Land Registry Office following the receipt of absolute title before the lots can be sold or developed.

Council authorized the Mayor and Clerk to enter into a Haul Route Agreement for the proposed Tremble Pit following the approval of a zoning amendment that had the effect of identifying a gravel pit as a permitted use on the property having municipal address 382063 Concession 4 NDR.

Council received a staff report regarding West Grey Zoning Bylaw Additional Dwelling Unit Housekeeping Amendment. Council directed staff to bring forward to amend bylaw 37-2006 to give effect to the housekeeping amendments as they relate to ZA16.2026.

Council received the Q2 2026 Building Department Activity Report for information purposes. The report provides an overview of building activity during the second quarter of 2026, including the number of permits issued, total project values, and collected permit fees. Total permits issued are down by six compared to the same period in 2025.

Council approved a Cost of Living Wage Adjustment Policy. The Cost of Living Wage Adjustment Policy will establish a consistent, transparent, and fiscally responsible method for adjusting the municipal wage grid in response to inflation.

Council received a staff report regarding the amendment of bylaws requiring newspaper publications as a form of notice and provided direction to bring forward the necessary amending bylaw(s) to remove newspaper publication requirements. The Hanover Post has ceased print operations, eliminating the Municipality’s traditional local newspaper option for notices requiring newspaper publication.
