Council Meeting Highlights - May 5, 2026

Council directed staff to submit delegation requests respecting funding opportunities for municipalities at the upcoming Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference taking place from August 16–19, 2026. 

Council directed staff to send letters of support for resolutions passed by other municipalities regarding:

• Finlay’s Law on Emergency Room Reform.
• Endorsing Special Economic Zones.
• Opposition to the ALTO High-Speed Railway.
  

A Community Garden Policy was presented to Council for approval, with implementation planned for 2027. Staff recommended that private garden beds be allocated through an annual application process, with users required to pay an annual fee for each bed. Council deferred a decision on the report until the June 16 meeting. 

Council received a staff report regarding ZA06.2025 Teeswater Concrete, and directed staff to bring forward a bylaw to amend bylaw 37-2006 as it relates to ZA06.2026. The property is designated Space Extensive Industrial and Commercial, Rural, Hazard, and Wetland in the Grey County Official Plan, with most of the land being designated Space Extensive. Most of the land is currently zoned C2-115, which permits a range of commercial and industrial uses. Most of the land is currently vacant agricultural land that is used to grow crops.

Council received a staff report regarding Waste Collection and Proposed Fees. The new contract for waste collection is scheduled to come into effect on June 29, 2026. One 240-litre cart will be delivered to every property with a residential building, excluding multi residential over five units, campgrounds, and mobile home parks. Additional waste cart(s) will be provided, upon request from the property owner, at their expense. Proposed fees for additional carts include cart delivery, biweekly collection, and disposal of waste.
