Reduced Load Restrictions in Effect March 1, 2025
Reduced load restrictions of 5 tonnes per axle will take effect on many West Grey-owned roads on March 1.
Roads are at their most vulnerable to damage in the spring. Load restrictions help to extend the lifespan of the road surface by minimizing damage from heavy vehicles.
Load restrictions are typically in place from March 1 to May 1. Dates may be adjusted depending on conditions of the year.
The seasonal gravel maintenance program is now underway in the Municipality of West Grey, with work taking place on select rural roads across the community.
Over the next month, transport trucks will apply a fresh layer of gravel to the road surface. Graders will follow to spread, blend, and compact the gravel with the existing surface, helping to reshape and stabilize the roads. Please note that while the gravel will be compacted, some areas may remain soft for up to two weeks after application.
Drivers are reminded to use caution when travelling near maintenance crews and equipment. Expect increased dust levels during this work and reduce your speed through active maintenance zones. Roads undergoing maintenance will be clearly signed, and local traffic is asked to avoid these areas where possible to support crew safety and help ensure the work is completed efficiently.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we continue to improve road conditions throughout West Grey.
