The Municipality of West Grey has curbside pickup for garbage and recycling. The municipality also operates two landfills.
Please have garbage and recycling out at the curb by 7 a.m. on scheduled days. Garbage must be in clear garbage bags to be collected. The Municipality of West Grey's garbage and recycling contractor starts collection at 7 a.m. and has until the end of the day to complete collection. Routing changes that affect collection times often occur for a number of reasons including adverse weather conditions, road closures, vehicle breakdowns and staff shortages. If items are not at the curb by 7 a.m. the municipality cannot guarantee collection.

The Municipality of West Grey is only able to accept recycling and waste materials from within the municipal boundaries as per the Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) issued by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP). The municipality also has an obligation to effectively manage its landfill sites to meet provincial diversion requirements by recycling as much waste as possible to extend the lifespan of its landfill capacity. Every fall the municipality holds a yard waste pickup day. Residents in Ayton, Elmwood, Durham and Neustadt may bag leaves, clippings, plants and brush in large brown yard waste bags and place them on the curb by 8 a.m. Leaves placed in plastic bags and loose brush will not be collected. Residents outside the urban areas may take yard waste to the Bentinck landfill. |
